The Fédération Internationale de l'Automobile (FIA), the global authority in motor sports, is taking a bold step forward with its inaugural Karting Shootout, scheduled for Valencia, Spain, from December 2nd to 7th, 2025. But here's where it gets controversial... or rather, incredibly exciting!
The event will be hosted at the renowned Aspar Karting Circuit, where aspiring drivers will undergo a rigorous evaluation process. Over five days, these young talents will be put through their paces, assessed not just on their driving skills but also their technical knowledge, physical fitness, and mental agility. It's a comprehensive approach to talent identification and development.
Practical sessions and workshops will precede the assessments, ensuring that every participant has the tools and knowledge to perform at their best. Then, the real test begins: a combination of on-track and off-track evaluations overseen by a panel of experienced judges. These judges will be looking for well-rounded drivers who excel not just in speed but also in strategy and sportsmanship.
For junior drivers, this means getting behind the wheel of karts provided by Parolin Motorsport, with LeCont supplying the tires. Senior drivers, on the other hand, will take a significant step forward in their careers as they are evaluated in Formula 4 cars supplied by Campos, with Pirelli as the official tire partner. The FIA is committed to ensuring these drivers have a smooth transition to car racing, promoting safe and fair competition from the very beginning.
A total of 24 drivers have earned their spot at the FIA Karting Shootout based on their outstanding performances in various FIA Karting championships and events throughout the year. This includes the 2025 FIA Karting OK and OK-J World Champions, OK-N and OK-NJ World Cup winners, and the Academy Trophy winners. Even more impressive, the top three finishers from the Senior and Junior categories of the Arrive and Drive World Cup, including Junior winner Troy Ferguson and Senior winner Zach Tucker, have also been invited to participate.
By recognizing success across all FIA Karting disciplines, this event forms a crucial part of the FIA's Global Karting Plan. Launched last year, this plan aims to boost the growth of karting at the base of the motor sport pyramid by introducing new and dynamic international karting events like the FIA Karting Arrive and Drive World Cup, which will make its debut in Malaysia later this month.
But the FIA Karting Shootout isn't just about identifying talent; it's about elevating the entire FIA Karting ecosystem. By establishing clear pathways for progression from junior to senior karting categories and then onto single-seater cars, the event provides a structured and supported journey for aspiring drivers. The FIA is offering these drivers not just rewards but also comprehensive support and development opportunities, setting a gold standard for growth and success within FIA competitions.
At the end of the evaluation process, the junior winner will receive significant support for their next step up the FIA Karting pyramid. The top prize includes free tires, fuel, and entries for up to five FIA Karting events in 2026, plus either a financial contribution of 6,000 euros per event to an FIA Karting team or a free entry to one of the FIA Arrive and Drive Continental Championships in 2026. The second and third-place junior finishers will also receive substantial support, with free tires, fuel, and entries for up to five FIA Karting events in 2026, along with either a financial contribution of 3,000 euros per event to an FIA Karting team or a free entry to one of the FIA Arrive and Drive Continental Championships in 2026.
For the senior winner, the prize is truly life-changing. They will receive a financial contribution of 250,000 euros towards a team in an approved FIA-certified Formula 4 Championship, a reward that is sure to propel their racing careers to new heights.
