He's improved his three-point shooting percentage to 35.5% for the season, and his ability to defend multiple positions is a huge plus. So, will we see Williams in the starting lineup soon? Mark Pope, Kentucky's head coach, seems to think so. During his radio show, Pope was asked if Williams could potentially start, and his response was an emphatic yes.
"Yes," Pope said. "It could take a season-ending injury to Jaland Lowe. We'll see how that works out."
Pope's comment, made just hours after revealing Lowe's season-ending surgery, certainly opens the door for Williams. Especially considering Dioubate's recent struggles, averaging just 5.3 points and five rebounds in Kentucky's first three SEC games.
If Monday's practice is any indication, Williams might be starting sooner rather than later. Kentucky's next game against LSU on Wednesday night could be the perfect opportunity for Williams to showcase his skills from the get-go.
"Kam was exceptional in practice today," Pope told host Tom Leach.
