In a shocking turn of events, Jessika Power, known for her appearance on Married At First Sight Australia, has shared that her brother is incredibly fortunate to be alive after sustaining serious injuries during a Christmas accident.
In an emotional post on Instagram, the 33-year-old reality star provided her followers with a glimpse into her brother Rhyce's condition, posting several images of him in a hospital room, surrounded by heart monitors and various medical devices.
Jessika's heartfelt caption conveyed her gratitude that Rhyce is still with them, urging her audience to keep him in their thoughts during this challenging time.
Rhyce later took to his own social media account to provide details about his ordeal. He revealed that he had suffered a broken scapula as a result of the accident. One of the images he shared depicted him in the hospital with a noticeable wound on his lower leg, while another showed him making an effort to walk with a leg brace. In a third photo, he expressed determination with the caption "Let’s get surgery," highlighting his resolve to recover.
Jessika gained fame during the sixth season of MAFS Australia in 2019, subsequently expanding her career to include appearances on British reality shows such as Celebs Go Dating and Celebrity Ex On The Beach.
This incident marks yet another instance of heartache for Jessika, who experienced the devastating loss of her father last August. At that time, she posted a poignant tribute on social media featuring a cherished photo of herself with her late father, expressing her disbelief and love: "…doesn’t feel real. We love you, Dad. I hope you’re up there having a port with your mates and looking down on us missing you forever.”
In contrast to her relationship with her mother, Jessika felt particularly close to her father, Troy. Despite being estranged for a number of years, they reconnected and built a strong bond six years prior to her participation in MAFS. Notably, he attended her televised wedding to Mick Gould, even confronting Mick over an inappropriate speech made by the best man during the reception.
In previous discussions, such as her appearance on the Lads Dads And Couple Of Beers Podcast, Jessika has opened up about her difficult upbringing. She recalled how her mother had betrayed her by selling stories about her to the press, stating, "My mother has sold stories on me, I’ve had best friends sell stories on me. My mother and I haven’t had a relationship in about seven years, but she decided four years ago that we were really close and sold stories that were completely fabricated and false.”
This betrayal was among the most painful experiences of Jessika’s life. She recounted a moment of despair, saying, "I remember just completely breaking down on the floor, thinking ‘how could she do this to me?’" She explained that she had chosen not to publicly discuss her mother or their troubled relationship, often deflecting media inquiries about her.
Jessika revealed that her childhood was markedly different from that of her peers, attributing some of the challenges to her mother's struggles with drug addiction. "She hit on my ex-husband, saying she would have been better matched with him, and criticized my plastic surgery as disgusting. I was so defeated at that point – even though we don’t have a relationship and don’t have respect, the last shred of respect I had for you was now gone,” she shared, illustrating the profound impact of her mother's actions on her life.
This heartfelt narrative raises important questions about family dynamics and the effects of betrayal. How far should we go to mend relationships with those who have hurt us? Do the bonds of family sometimes overshadow the need for self-respect? Let us know your thoughts in the comments below!
