Nova Scotians are digging out for a second day as a strong winter storm continues to affect the region. This has led to several cancellations and closures across various sectors.
Schools:
- All HRCE Schools are closed, with offices delayed by 2 hours.
- Annapolis Valley Regional Centre for Education is closed.
- South Shore Regional Centre for Education schools and offices are closed.
- Tri-County Regional Centre for Education schools are closed.
- Strait Regional Centre for Education schools and offices are closed.
- All CCRCE schools (Cumberland County, Colchester County, Pictou County, and the Municipality of East Hants) will be closed.
- Cape Breton-Victoria Regional Centre for Education schools are closed.
- Dalhousie University's Halifax and Truro campuses, and the University of King's College, will delay opening until 12 p.m.
- Saint Mary's University campus will delay opening until 12 p.m.
- MSVU is delaying opening until 12 p.m.
- NSCC - All Halifax-area campuses are closed, except for Valley and Kingstec.
Transportation:
- Halifax Transit: Snow routes will remain in effect on Jan. 27, causing delays. Passengers should allow extra time.
- Access-a-bus service is also expected to be delayed.
- There are no ferry service disruptions, except for the ongoing 30-minute disruption for the Alderney ferry.
- Service disruptions will be announced via @hfxtransit.bsky.social on Bluesky and the website.
- Halifax Stanfield International Airport: Passengers are advised to check with their airlines before heading to the airport.
Waste Management:
- Curbside collection of solid waste for Jan. 27 will continue as scheduled, but residents are asked to not place waste curbside until the morning to allow for snow clearing operations.
- The Otter Lake Waste Facility, Materials Recycling Facility, and Organics Management Facility will be open.
Municipal Services:
- All municipal offices, including Planning & Development permit offices and Customer Service Centres, will delay opening until 10 a.m. on Jan. 27. If there are further delays or closures, updates will be provided.
- Employees who can work from home are encouraged to do so.
- Essential services, 311, winter operations, and Halifax Transit will maintain operations.
- The Regional Council meeting scheduled for Jan. 27 will proceed as scheduled.
Recreation:
- Most municipally-owned and operated recreation facilities will be open as scheduled on Jan. 27. Residents should call their local recreation centre to confirm.
- The Halifax Public Gardens will be closed in the morning on Jan. 27 and will be reassessed based on weather conditions.
