Here's the lowdown:
- What: SVRI Forum 2026 – a leading global forum on violence against women, children, and gender-based violence.
- Who: Researchers, practitioners, policymakers, advocates, and program implementers.
- Why: To share evidence, practical knowledge, and innovative approaches to prevent and respond to violence.
- Languages: English, Spanish, and French.
- Submission Deadline: Mark your calendars! Abstracts are due by January 30, 2026.
About the Call for Abstracts
The goal is to provide a platform for sharing impactful work. The forum focuses on evidence-based, ethical, and impactful contributions, especially those from low- and middle-income countries. You can present your work in various formats, including oral presentations, posters, and panel discussions.
Types of Abstract Submissions
You have two main options:
- Research / Programme / Practice-Based Abstracts (Single Submissions): These are for individual projects or programs. If you've got a single body of work to share, this is your route. The focus can be on research, program implementation, or practice-based knowledge. Think of it as a solo presentation. These are reviewed on their individual merit.
- Panel Abstracts (Group Submissions): If you're part of a team, this is for you. Panel abstracts explore a shared theme from multiple perspectives. This is a coordinated effort, requiring an overarching panel abstract and individual abstracts from each panelist. But here's where it gets controversial... Panels must have thematic coherence and include contributions from diverse institutions, regions, or sectors.
Important Considerations for Panel Submissions:
- A single abstract covering the entire panel will not be accepted.
- Panels based on a single study or project will not be considered.
- Panel slots are highly competitive and limited.
- SVRI reserves the right to merge, split, or adjust panels to strengthen the program.
The Submission Process
Submissions are handled through Oxford Abstracts, the official platform. You'll need to create a user profile, complete the online form, and submit your abstract. And this is the part most people miss... You can only edit your abstract while it's incomplete. Once submitted, changes aren't possible, so double-check everything! If you need to make changes after submission, contact [email protected].
Abstract Format and Content Requirements
Keep these guidelines in mind:
- Word Limit: A maximum of 350 words.
- Title: Up to 25 words.
- Language: Clear, accessible, and plain language is a must.
Each abstract should clearly outline:
- The purpose and importance of your work.
- The methods or approach you used.
- Key findings, outcomes, or learnings.
- Relevance to the field and contribution to knowledge, policy, or practice.
Presentation Formats
You can choose from various presentation formats, including oral presentations (research, program/practice-based knowledge, or panel), four-minute presentations, and poster presentations. The Scientific Committee will make the final decisions.
Abstract Review Criteria
Your abstract will be assessed based on:
- Relevance to key themes.
- Clarity of purpose.
- Appropriate methodology.
- Significance of findings.
- Contribution to the field.
- Relevance to low- and middle-income settings.
- Ethical considerations.
Ethical Considerations
Ethical research practices are paramount. Your abstract must demonstrate:
- Ethics approval or exemption.
- Participant protection measures.
- Evidence of informed consent, confidentiality, and risk management.
- Referral pathways for those affected by violence.
Without sufficient ethical consideration, your abstract may not be accepted.
